New Deal Murals in Kentucky Post Offices
On Exhibit: October 19 to
November 24, 2001.
This exhibit is based on the 1999 doctoral dissertation of
Eileen Toutant, University of Louisville, Department of Fine Arts. Visual images
provided by Wes Kent and Dr. William Toutant.
This photo exhibit is an intriguing look into a by gone era of
Americana. The Works Progress Administration of the Great Depression Era
was a program that not only put laborers back to work but artists as well.
Most of the WPA Era art went into public spaces in the form of
murals. This exhibit features color photographs of WPA Murals installed
into US Post Offices throughout Kentucky. This exhibit seems very
appropriate for the Janice Mason Art Museum to present since our structure is a WPA built Post Office.
This is just a sample from the exhibit.
