Mural to be Unveiled at Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen Exhibit

 

Kentucky’s oldest and most prominent statewide art and craft organization, the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen (KGAC) is pleased to present a KGAC Members Exhibit in partnership with the Janice Mason Art Museum. The community is invited as the exhibit opens with a reception on September 14 from 6 – 8 PM.  At this opening event, the Museum’s much-anticipated mural will be unveiled. The Museum, in partnership with the Trigg County Historic and Preservation Society sponsored a contest earlier this year to paint a mural in the tradition of Works Progress Administration post office murals across the country.  Artist Charlotte Wilson was selected in May and has been painting on the 13-foot canvas ever since. 

 

The KGAC exhibit is the first in a series of exciting and engaging statewide exhibits in Western Kentucky and features the work of over 40 KGAC members from throughout the commonwealth.  These artworks demonstrate how KGAC supports and nurtures Kentucky’s strong heritage of beauty, creativity and quality.  The exhibit includes work by nationally respected artists and craftsmen, as well as artisans ready to be discovered. Mediums represented at the show will include fiber and weaving, blacksmithing, large contemporary stainless steel sculptures, functional and sculptural ceramics, fused glass, watercolor, photography, wood turning and more. 

 

The mission of the KGAC is to establish art and craft as a vital influence by promoting excellence through education, collaboration, leadership and service.  Best known for its Berea art fairs every spring and fall, the KGAC also sponsors exhibits and educational projects for the public and offers artisans opportunities in marketing, leadership, and community service.

 

The KGAC exhibit will be on display through October 27.  The Janice Mason Art Museum is located at 71 Main Street in Cadiz.  Gallery hours are 10 AM – 4 PM weekdays and Saturdays except Wednesdays and 1PM – 4 PM Sundays.  Partial funding has been provided by the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
