If you Want to Dance
Nancy Genevieve

If you want to dance with me,
you must at least hum the song.

Maybe,
     you can't
     or
     you're afraid
     or
     you won't.

But a waltz
     of one
     is no dance
     at all.

I might as well
     whirl in the sunlight
and try to grab my shadow.

You might learn to hum only
     after the dance has stopped.
