Only Three Weeks Left to See The Wier Show
CADIZ, KY. The Wier Show, a remarkable exhibit of
contemporary art at the Janice Mason Art Museum in Cadiz, has only three weeks
before returning to its Chicago home. The last chance to see the show will be
November 28. Since its opening October 4, this exhibit has attracted more
than fifteen hundred visitors, including many students.
The exhibit contains works by some of the twentieth
century’s most well-known and important artists such as Chuck Close, Jasper
Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Frank Stella. “Many visitors are surprised at
the quality of this show,” said Museum Administrator Dr. Martha Davis. “We've
also experienced a marked increase in requests by artists to exhibit here
after they see our beautiful gallery.”
Pat and Dick Wier, private collectors from Chicago,
had never visited Cadiz when they agreed to loan their collection. Mutual
friends of the Wiers and a Museum board member suggested they loan the art to
the Museum instead of placing it in storage during renovations to their home.
The Cadiz/Trigg County Tourist Commission stepped in and offered to pay the
transportation costs to safely bring the works to Kentucky.
The Wiers have visited the exhibit twice and plan a
third visit on November 16. On that Sunday afternoon, beginning at 1:30, they
will offer an informal talk about collecting and their art, and will answer
questions. Anyone interested is welcome; there is no charge for this event.
