Museum’s Festival of Trees
Cadiz, KY—Plans are
underway for the Janice Mason Art Museum’s 2005 Festival of Trees.
Co-sponsored by Trigg County Homemakers Clubs, this exhibit is
traditionally one of the Museum’s most visited, and a local favorite.
This year the tree display will be supplemented by a Gingerbread House
Contest. Cash prizes will be awarded to the baker with the most votes
received at the Holiday Open House on the evening of the Cadiz Christmas
Parade. All gingerbread house entries must be made entirely of edible
materials and with a base not exceeding 2 feet by 2 feet. The entries
must be delivered November 30 or December 1.
Because of limited space,
the Museum is requesting those civic groups, clubs, businesses, church
groups, or individuals interested in decorating a tree and/or creating a
gingerbread house to make a commitment by November 15. Those who
displayed a tree last year will be contacted by a committee member who
will also have the hours available for setting up and decorating the
trees. Please call the Museum by November 15 at 270 522 9056 if you have
not been contacted and are interested in participating.
Also, as part of the
holiday fun, the Museum will hold a gingerbread house workshop for
elementary-aged school children Thursday, December 1 3:30-5:00 PM. A
workshop for pre-schoolers (3+) will be held Saturday, December 10 from
10:00-11:00 AM. The
cost is $10, payable in advance. While these works of art will not be a
part of the competition, they will be displayed throughout the holiday
season in the Festival of Trees exhibit. Please call the Museum at 270
522 9056 to register your child.
The Janice Mason Art Museum
is a non-profit, private corporation funded by member donations. Museum
hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 – 4, Sunday 1-4. The Kentucky Arts Council,
a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet, provides operational support
funding for the Janice Mason Art Museum with state tax dollars and federal
funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a
great nation deserves great art.
