Annual
Membership Drive Launched
With the
opening of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen (KGAC) exhibit,
the Museum will kick off its annual membership drive. We hope you
have enjoyed the benefits of membership over the past year. We
have worked hard to continue to bring quality arts to the
community. Almost 100 adults have enjoyed classes as the Museum,
and almost 1,000 Trigg County Students have visited at least one exhibit
and have been exposed to other cultures and new ideas. As a
member, you receive a discount on purchases in our gift shop and on fees
for our classes and workshops.
The three year Capital Campaign launched
last year is still ongoing; the new heating/air conditioning system
installation was completed with these funds. We have a long way to
go to meet our goal, but our sights are still set on the beautiful
facility we have planned. Currently, any membership gifts and donations
not earmarked specifically for the Capital Campaign go directly to the
operation budget.
If you are already a member, THANK YOU.
We hope circumstances allow you to increase your gift this year.
If you are not a member, please consider the impact your gift can have
on the quality of the community. Call 522-9056 for more
information or to receive a membership packet in the mail.

KGAC
Exhibit Features Kentucky's Finest
Kentucky's
oldest and most prominent statewide art and craft organization, the Kentucky
Guild of Artists and Craftsmen (KGAC) is pleased to present their
Members Exhibit in partnership with the Museum. This exhibit is
the first in a series of exciting and engaging statewide exhibits to
visit Western Kentucky and features the work of over 40 KGAC members
from throughout the commonwealth. These artworks demonstrate how
KGAC supports and nurtures KY's strong heritage of beauty, creativity
and quality. The exhibit includes work by nationally respected
artists and craftsmen, as well as artisans ready to be discovered.
Mediums represented at the show will include
fiber and weaving, blacksmithing, large contemporary stainless steel
sculptures, functional and sculptural ceramics, fused glass, watercolor,
photography, wood turning and more.
The mission of the KGAC is to establish art
and craft as a vital influence by promoting excellence through
education, collaboration, leadership and service. Best known for
its Berea art fairs every spring and fall, the KGAC also sponsors
exhibits and educational projects for the public and offers artisans
opportunities in marketing, leadership, and community service.
The KGAC exhibit will open September 14 and
be on display through October 27. The community is invited to
attend the opening reception from 6 - 8 PM. At this opening
Charlotte Wilson's mural will be unveiled. See

Many classes offered
Have you
seen all the classes offered at the Museum? The list is growing
all the time. There is bound to be a class for everyone.
There is even a drawing class for those who do not think they can draw!
There are
waiting lists for almost all classes. And each class has gotten
rave reviews by the students. The education department is one of
the greatest additions to the Museum. Peggy Kemp is the chair for
that committee and should be congratulated on doing such a fine job.
Check out the classes
page on the web site for information on each class. If you are
interested in signing up for a class have Dr. Davis put your name on a
list.
One of the most
exciting classes coming up is Nancy Perkins' writing class. If you
ever thought you might want to put your story down on paper this is the
class for you. The class size will be limited to enable plenty of
personal attention for each student. So if you would like to take
this class you should sign up now.
Perhaps the most
sought after class is Mitchell Bryant's pottery class. And now a
Pottery Two class is being organized for those who have taken Pottery
One. These students are all adults but one would hardly know
it. They are just big kids, excited to be playing in the mud.
Vicki Karrigan's
stained glass class is always producing some very interesting
work. You can never say that class is not colorful! Each
student in this class creates their very own stained glass work.
Each student also gets his own tools to keep.
All members of the
Museum get a discount on their art supplies. This is a wonderful
added benefit of being a Museum member. Not only do you get a
discount but the Museum earns a little at the same time to keep the
lights burning.

Exciting
trips planned
for Museum friends
The Janice Mason Art Museum (JMAM)
encourages it's members to visit other art venues. This broadens
our vision and allows us to plan more interesting events and exhibits
for Cadiz.
Keeping that in mind the Museum intends to begin to plan trips to
various points of interest as our members request them. Presently
two trips are in the works. Both are exciting and will give our
members an opportunity to enjoy the friendship of other arts enthusiasts.
JMAM member Shirley Johnson is organizing a New York trip. It
includes Broadway plays (Shirley laughs, "As if there is some other
reason to go to NY.") and museum visits. There will also be
opportunities to independently see the sights. Shirley says that
you can be as dependent or independent as you want. You are
encouraged to take advantage of the good rates that she has
arranged. Our sources indicate that Shirley always has a fun trip.
Shirley's New York trip will be November 28 through December 2.
All arrangements are to be made through Shirley Johnson and she can be
contacted by e-mail by clicking here.
You may also leave a message for her at the Museum 270-522-9056.
Another art travel opportunity is a convoy forming to attend the
French painters exhibit exhibit "Millet to Matisse"
at the Speed Museum in Louisville, Kentucky.
Click
here for the exhibit web site. The exhibit features
19th & 20th century French painters including Monet, Picasso,
Gauguin, Pissaro and Cézanne.
The date for the trip has not been set but will be
between November 6, 2002 and February 2, 2003. If you
want to sign up you may do so at the Museum office, or call Martha at
522-9056 or email Martha by clicking here.
As the exhibit approaches you will be contacted and a date will be
established that suits everyone.
If the idea of more art trips interest you please let the Museum
know. JMAM can plan trips with various lengths from one day to a
weekend or even longer if it is desired. The possibility even
exist that travel abroad can be arranged.

Rotary Club great Museum supporter
The Cadiz Rotary Club is always a tremendous
supporter of youth activities in Trigg County. Each year the
Rotary Club contributes funds to mount the Trigg County Elementary PTA
Art Contest and Exhibit at the Janice Mason Art Museum.
This year the Museum has become the recipient of a much larger
contribution to match funds from the Kentucky Arts Council. The
Rotary Club has donated $3,000 toward the Museum's youth education
program.
Without the generous support of the community and its civic
organizations the Museum would not financially be able to function.
JMAM finds this an excellent way to kick off the season's membership
drive. Dr. Davis says, "We are proud of the example the
Rotary Club sets for the community." And what an example it
is! If its a quality youth oriented event you can bet the Rotary
Club has been there with their support.

Here Norman Cotton presents the Rotary Club's donation of
$3,000 to Museum President Paula Lisowsky while Dr. Davis looks on.
President Lisowsky says, "I don't know why but I'm always astounded
by the generosity of this community. We appreciate the wonderful
support of the Rotary Club."
