Trigg County students published six volumes of local history, which were known as Echoes. She currently teaches creative writing at the University of Illinois at Springfield.

     Her new volume of poetry is the second book of the NYX trilogy. NYX was the name of an ancient Greek mythological character; she was the personification of night. Nancy read from the first volume, NYX: Mother of Light, last fall at the Museum. "Reading from my new poetry book in Cadiz in the fall is becoming a tradition. A tradition I love," noted Perkins.

 

 

     All of Perkins’ creative work is published under her first two names: nancy genevieve. These are the names her parents gave to her at birth, naming her after two of her great aunts. Laughing, Nancy recalled, "This use of one last name in the classroom and another last name on the publications has caused some difficulties. One of my friend’s husbands went to Barnes & Noble in Peoria [Illinois] three times last year trying to buy his wife a copy of my poetry book for a surprise Christmas present, and no one there could find it--they were all looking for a book by Perkins the whole time."

Native Poet-Educator to Conduct Writing Workshop and Reading at the Janice Mason Art Museum in Cadiz

      Nancy Genevieve Perkins, formerly of Cadiz, will be conducting a creative writing workshop on Memoir Writing at the Janice Mason Art Museum in Cadiz on Friday, October 18 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Enrollment for the Workshop is limited, so interested individuals should call the Museum at 270.522.9056 to enroll. On Friday evening she will conduct a poetry reading and book signing from her new poetry book, NYX: Daughter of Chaos, at the Museum at 7:00 p.m. The reading is open to the public and the books are available at the gift shop.

     Perkins is better known locally as an English educator; she taught English at Trigg County High School from 1977-1990, and she started and directed the Writing Center at Murray State University from 1975-1977. Her
