Lower Town Artists Exhibit at JMAM
Cadiz- The Janice Mason Art Museum presents
the exciting works by the LowerTown Artists of Paducah on March 25 through
April 25, 2005. There will be works from over twenty artists displayed.
These artists are part of an amazing group
who have relocated to Paducah, Kentucky as the result of the LowerTown
Relocation Program started in 2000. The city of Paducah was losing many of
their downtown stores and shops. In an effort to revitalize the city,
Paducah offered incentives to artists such as low interest loans, free lots
for new construction, health insurance packages, discounts on closing costs,
free web pages, etc. in order to get them to move to Paducah. There are now
45 artists who have purchased property and 21 galleries are open. Artists
have come from California, District of Columbus, Arizonia, Vancouver,
Nashville, Atlanta, Massachusetts, etc. There is a great diversity of art
forms such as printmakers, painters, fiber artists, quilters, bookbinders,
sculptors, photographers, a marbler, and multi media artists. Many of these
have shown their work all over the nation as well as Italy, Japan, France,
Canada, and Cuba.
The Janice Mason Art Museum is indeed
fortunate to have an exhibit that draws from this talented group. Peggy
Kemp, artist and art teacher, says "One of the strengths of this show is
the variety of styles and media that each artist uses to reflect his/her
creativity and emotional involvement with the arts."
The opening
reception will be Friday, March 25, at the Museum at 7:00-9:00 P.M.
Join us for this unique experience displayed by
our neighboring Paducah LowerTown Artists. The Janice Mason Art Museum is open Monday
through Saturday from 10 to 4 P.M. and Sunday from 1 to 4 P.M. Partial Funding is
provided by the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce
Cabinet, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the USDA
Forest Service.
