Words are not adequate to describe the beauty of the fabric or the design of
the items in this exhibit. This exhibit is but a small part of the
private collection of Claude Holeman, curator of the Dawson Springs, KY
museum.
The Janice Mason Art Museum is privileged to present this exhibit consisting
of nearly 50 pieces of vintage Japanese clothing. Upon entering the
museum you are treated to a Shinto priest's robe. The main
gallery houses an immense collection of kimono and obi.
Most prominent is the uchikake or the wedding kimono.
The second gallery has been transformed into a summer
room. Colorful kites adorn the ceiling and light weight cotton yukata
and children's kimono are displayed here. Accessories, sandals, and
undergarments round out this showcase of Japanese culture.
