A MUSICAL DR. SEUSS TAKES TRIGG COUNTY
STAGE
Cadiz, KY. Trigg Countians have a new opportunity to showcase their
talent. The Janice Mason Art Museum (JMAM) and the Trigg County School
system have formed a partnership with a parent representative and two
community representatives to produce a full-scale community musical
production scheduled for June at the Trigg County High School Little
Theater.
Through a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council and the talent and
experience of numerous local individuals, JMAM announces the production
of the Broadway musical “Seussical the Musical” to be performed the
first two weekends in June. The play incorporates stories from several
Dr. Seuss books. The cast will include adults as well as students.
There also promises to be a live orchestra of students and community
members.
Portia Ezell, a native of Trigg County, says, “I’m so excited about this
I can’t sleep.” Everyone knows that Portia’s passion has always been
the theater. Mrs. Ezell is on a committee that will serve as the
producers for the play. Paul Fourshee, Ann Taylor, Martha Davis and
Melissa Higgins complete the committee.
Martha Davis states, “The purpose of this grant is to foster art
partnerships between the schools, JMAM, parents, and the community.” And
true to that objective the committee has big things planned.
A series of theater workshops will be held leading up to auditions.
Melissa Higgins says, “This will be an excellent opportunity for folks
to learn about a production just to see if they are interested or to
decide if they have the time.” There will be workshops for Production,
Set Design, Costuming and Makeup, Acting, and Music. Students and
adults are invited to attend the workshops. (See attached schedule for
dates and times.)
“There will be room for everyone who wants to work with the play,” says
Mrs. Ezell. “Most people think only of actors when doing a play, but we
will also need musicians, set builders and folks to make costumes and
props.” If you are interested in working with the play you should
contact Portia Ezell at Eldora’s Books, 270-522-1995. Those who want to
sign up to attend any of the workshops should contact Melissa Higgins at
the school, 270-522-2220, extension 2042. The workshops are free and
one does not have to attend the workshops to be in the production nor
does one have to be in the production if you attend the workshop. All
activities concerning the production will be held at the Trigg County
High School Little Theater.
The web site for JMAM has a page dedicated to information regarding the
production including a calendar. Access that site at www.jmam.org or
watch your local media for future announcements.
The Kentucky Arts Council,
a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet, provides operational support
funding for the Janice Mason Art Museum with state tax dollars and
federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes
that a great nation deserves great art.
