Phara Bourque, of Cadiz, displays over forty of her
photographs taken all over the world. Her sensitive
treatment of her subject and her National Geographic style are
trademarks.
Ms. Bourque's
images are all "full frame"
which is something she prides herself on. "Full frame"
means there is no cropping or resizing of the image. She
composes in the camera while capturing the image.
Her images are unique yet familiar. Whether taken of the
canals of Venice or tobacco barns in Trigg County she has the
ability to show us how picturesque our daily lives are.
Her first photography
experience was in first grade with a Polaroid camera. "I took a series
of five images and wrote a poem along with the visual story. I still
have them," Bourque remarked.
She enrolled in photography classes at
the Cleveland Institute of Art through her junior and high school
years. She attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio with a major in
photo journalism and a minor in art history. Bourque has been employed
at the
Chicago Reader, Maine Times, Vermont Times
and Vermont Magazine. “These were liberal weekly papers and the
funkier the images, the more requests I got for them," Bourque quipped.
She also taught at St. Michaels College and University of Vermont. |
