The Historical Confederation of Kentucky and the Kentucky Historical Society presented its Award of Merit for a historical publication to the Janice Mason Art Museum on March 2, 2002.  This award recognizes the Steve Shields exhibit publication for its historical importance documenting one of Kentucky's finest artists.
        This publication of Steve Shields' work is meticulously professional.  It is very unusual to discover a publication of this caliber produced by a local art museum.  It is a testament to the Janice Mason Art Museum and the community of Cadiz that a volunteer staff can put together a book of such outstanding quality.
        This book is a symbol of the high standards espoused by the Janice Mason Art Museum.  This little museum stands tall in proving that a small town can provide exceptional opportunities when it decides that it wants to.  The future of American art is in its communities and Cadiz is on the leading edge of this discovery.
