FINALIZES PLANS FOR MAJOR EXHIBIT
CADIZ, KY. The Janice Mason Art Museum is finalizing arrangements for one of
its most important exhibitions to date. The Wier Show opens for a two-month run
on October 4. This exhibition will present works by some of the twentieth
century’s most well known contemporary artists. Chuck Close, Jasper Johns, Frank
Stella, Robert Rauschenberg, and Sol Lewitt are just a few of the important
artists whose art works will be presented in this show. A variety of media in
this exhibit includes painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography and
textiles.
"We are incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to bring a collection of this
caliber to Cadiz," said Museum Board of Directors President Paula Lisowsky. "Mr.
and Mrs. Wier were most gracious to offer their collection, and when the
Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission agreed to underwrite the show, all of our
planning just came together. We couldn’t be more thrilled and grateful."
Pat and Dick Wier of Chicago have been collecting contemporary art for many
years. The pieces selected for this exhibit by the Museum are only a fraction of
the Wier’s total collection. The Wiers are excited about lending these works to
be enjoyed by Museum patrons. This exhibit at the Janice Mason Art Museum will
be the first public viewing of these selections from this private collection.
The Wiers, along with several of their friends, will attend the opening gala at
the Museum on October 4.
The Museum plans to work with the local school system so that Trigg County’s
students will not miss this unique opportunity to view these remarkable art
pieces and to learn about this important art movement. Local colleges and
universities will also be encouraged to take advantage of having this collection
in western Kentucky.
Further details on the The Wier Show and related events will be distributed
through the media, direct mail to members, and posted to the Museum’s website (www.jmam.org)
as the opening date draws closer.
The Janice Mason Art Museum is located at 71 Main Street in Cadiz. Gallery hours
are 10 AM – 4 PM weekdays and Saturdays, and 1 PM – 4 PM Sundays. Partial
funding has been provided by the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the
Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet with support from the National Endowment
for the Arts.
