New Classes To Be Taught at the Janice Mason Art Museum

Mitchell Bryant will be teaching a pottery class beginning September 24 at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will meet on six consecutive Tuesday nights in the basement of the Museum.  The fee will be $50.00 for Museum members and $60.00 for non-members.  Students will also have to purchase their clay and glazes which are to be available at their first class meeting.  The price for the clay will be determined by how much you want to purchase for your projects.  Pottery techniques to be used are pinch, coil, slab, and throwing.  A kiln and potters wheels are available.  Call 522-9056 to get your name on the list.

Peggy Kemp will be offering a painting class beginning October 18 at 6 to 8 p.m.  This class will meet for six Monday nights and will have two labs. Watercolor and acrylics will both be taught and students may be at different levels of experience.  Beginners are welcome.  The cost of the class is $40 for Museum members and $50 for non-members.  Class members must furnish their own supplies.   Water color students will need the following brushes: 1 size 4 or 6 water color brush, 1 inch water color brush, 3/4 inch water color brush.  Needed paints are:  For the seriously interested person there is the Winsor-Newton Cotman Water Colours Palette Set.  It contains 1 no. 4 brush, several tubes of paint, and a paint palette.  Approximate cost is $31.99.  If you do not want to invest as much in your paints, then you may purchase a water color paint set such as Prang Professional with 16 colors.  This will include a small brush.  Approximate cost $7.50.  You will need to purchase water color paper that is 140 lb. weight with a cold press surface.  The sheets need to be at least 15 inches by 20 inches.  These supplies may be found at Hobby Lobby or other art stores.  If you are an acrylic student you will need to buy 3 different size acrylic brushes ( possibly the same size as the water color students), acrylic paints, and something to paint on ( this may be cardboard, a stretched canvass, or most anything that is heavier than paper). Be sure to bring your supplies to the first class.   Call 522-9056 for more information or to get your name on the list.
