NEW FALL CLASSES TO BEGIN AT JANICE MASON ART MUSEUM

 

       The Janice Mason Art Museum is excited about announcing its fall schedule of classes.  If you are interested in participating in any of these classes please notify the museum, preferably two weeks before the beginning date.  This is very important so that the correct number of books and other needed materials can be purchased by the center.  The fee for all classes except stained-glass and basket making will be $55.00 for nonmembers and $50.00 for members.  Stained-glass is $125.00 for nonmembers and $100 for members.  Basket making is $20 for all students.  Please phone Martha at the museum between 10 and 4 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday at 522-9056 for further information and to register.

 

Sculpture begins August 31 and continues through October 12 every Tuesday (with the exception of September 7).  Meeting times are 5:30 to 7:30 and the class meets for six sessions.  Peggy Kemp will teach this class utilizing household materials, but using them in a unique way to create sculptures.  Each student will need to bring a pair of wire cutters, a pair of flat nose pliers, and a pair of pointed pliers.  Also participants will need to save newspapers and wire coat hangers to bring to this class. 

 

The Stencil Class will involve designing a stencil, making a stencil, and applying the stencil to some objects such as clothing, walls, cakes, pottery, stained-glass, or any other object.  You are only limited by your imagination.  The class begins Thursday, September 2, at 5:30-7:30 and meets at the same time weekly for six weeks.  Mitchell Bryant is the instructor and all supplies are furnished with the exception of the items you choose to apply the stencil on. 

 

Painting Oil Portraits will be taught by Karen Mize-Harper and will begin meeting on Monday, September 13 , at 5:30 to 7:30 for seven weeks on the same day and time.  This class will utilize oil paint that cleans up with water.  Students will need to furnish their own paint, oil brushes and a palette.  To be sure students secure the right kind of paint and correct colors, the museum will purchase the supplies needed and have them available for students to buy their first night of class.  Items needed for the class are 11 specific colors of paint ($70), brushes ($25), palette knife ($5.99), 2 canvasses ($10.00), medium ($5.05), scraper knife ($3.00), and an old mirror or piece of glass to use as a palette. 

 

Stained-Glass Class will  begin Monday, September 13, at 5:30 to 7:30 and meets at the same time weekly for six weeks. Vicki Karrigan, the instructor, will teach

participants how to make a project of their choosing.  The tools, which participants will keep,  and supplies are furnished with the fee.  Additionally, students will buy stained-glass (available at the museum) for their individual projects. 

 

Basket Making will be taught by Paula Lisowsky on Saturday, October 2, from 1 to 5:00.  Participants will make a melon shaped/ egg basket.  All tools and supplies are furnished.  The fee is $20 for all students.

 

 

The Drawing Class, taught by Paula Lisowsky, utilizes the text and techniques of Drawing On The Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards.  The class begins Thursday, October 14 at 4:30-6:30 and continues for a total of six weeks on the same day and time.  Students will need to bring a drawing pad and several number two lead pencils.  The museum furnishes the text.

 

Photography meets five consecutive weeks beginning Monday, October 25 at 5:30-7:30 with Phara Bourque as the instructor.  This is a basic class which covers composition, lighting, light exposure, and the characteristics of a good photo.  At the beginning of the class the basic parts of the camera and how they operate will be presented.  Participants will need a camera and will be responsible for making prints for each weeks class.  Phara's photography will be featured as the May exhibit at the museum.
