LOCAL ARTIST TO EXHIBIT AT THE
JANICE MASON ART MUSEUM
Cadiz,
KY Brian Curling will return to the Janice Mason Art Museum to
exhibit his drawings and prints in a show entitled “The Past and the
Pending”. This exhibit also includes some of the painting of his
grandmother, Laura Dale Curling.
Brian
Curling began making and exhibiting works of art ten years ago while
attending the University of Kentucky. After receiving his
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and independently making art, he went to
the University of Nebraska to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in
Printmaking under the direction of Professor Karen Kunc. Since the fall
of 2001, Brian has established Goldfinch Press, a collaborative fine art
press, and has actively exhibited his work locally, nationally and
internationally including the 6th Triennale Mondiale
d’Estampes in France. His printed works of art are housed in the
permanent collection of the Sheldon Museum of Art. He has been the
fortunate recipient of several awards; the Coleman Award for
Printmaking, a Research and Creativity Grant completed the Master of
Fine Arts Program and has been an artist-in-residence in Espoo, from the
University of Kentucky , and most recently
the Vreeland Award. Brian has just Finland for the summer of 2004 at the
request of the Finnish Graphics Association. Brian is now teaching at
the Cleveland Institute of Art in printmaking and drawing.
This
is an especially poignant exhibit for Brian since his grandmother’s
painting will be displayed side by side with his. Brian said, “My
grandmothers painting reflects the rustic
emblems of the landscape as she knows them from her life in rural
Trigg County. Laura Dale Curling, grandmother, has always been
creative. My art is inspired by the landscapes I have seen, but my art
is different and more abstract than hers. My grandmother is the
inspiration for my creativity and my desire to do art.”

on Friday, October 22 at 5:30-8:30 P.M. This exhibit will
be displayed from October 22 to November 24. An opening reception will
